Tucson, AZ : Two teens were killed and a man was seriously injured in a three vehicles collision at South Craycroft Road, near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base On Saturday, May 14th, 2016
Two teens were killed and a man was seriously injured in a collision involving three vehicles Saturday morning, police said.
The crash took place about 7 a.m. in the area of East Golf Links and South Craycroft Road, near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
An 18-year-old driver, Travis Childress, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Tucson Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Bay.
His 16-year-old passenger, Madisyn Bertsch, was transported to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson, where she later died, Bay said.
A 34-year-old male driver was also transported to Banner-UMC, with serious injuries. A 61-year-old male driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Childress, driving a copper-colored 2012 Jeep Compass, was eastbound on Golf Links, east of Craycroft, with Bertsch. He drove through a break in the median and began heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of travel, Bay said in a news
release.
He then struck a white Ford truck being driven westbound on Golf Links in the middle lane by the 34-year-old man, Bay said.
The collision caused the Ford truck to roll over and strike a white 2014 Chevy truck driven by the 61-year-old man, who was driving in the curb lane ahead of the Ford truck, she said.
"Speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision," Bay wrote. "Everyone involved was wearing their seatbelts."
