A California man died in a crash on Interstate 80 near Burns, Wyoming, Sunday.
Anatoliy Yakubovskiy, 32, of Rocklin, California, died in the crash at milepost 385, according to information released by the Wyoming Highway Patrol Monday.
According to the press release, Edward Jones Jr., 69, of Dallas, Texas, had been driving a 2015 Freightliner Conventional was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80, when the vehicle began to experience mechanical issues. Jones pulled his combination unit over and parked in the emergency lane. Yakubovskiy, driving a 2012 Volvo Conventional was also traveling eastbound in the right lane and struck the rear of the broken down combination unit. The Volvo then crossed both eastbound lanes of travel and entered the median when it overturned and came to a rest on the passenger’s side.
Yakubovskiy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. It is unknown at this time if he was wearing his seatbelt.
Jones was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and hospitalized for his injuries.
This crash resulted in the fourth highway fatality in Wyoming for 2018 compared to three fatalities in 2017, four in 2016, and ten in 2015 during this same time period.
Driver inattention and equipment failure has been determined as factors to the crash.
