Tuscumbia, AL : Truck crashes into water department in Tuscumbia on Sunday night, November 2, 2014
A late night crash in the Spring Valley community sent one man to the hospital.
State Troopers tell 37-year-old Benny James Lawrence was traveling on LaGrange Road (County Road 77) when his truck left the road and traveled about a long distance before crashing into the area Water Department. There was an ATV on a trailer attached to the back.
They released surveillance video of the incident Monday morning.
Officials at the scene said Lawrence was trapped in his truck for about 30 minutes before Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department workers could free him. He was transported to Helen Keller Hospital in stable condition. He was released Monday morning.
There is damage to the front of the Water Department building and fence. A department truck was also damaged in the crash. Fire Chief Keith Reaves said Lawrence just barely missed his department building, knocking down some signs and the mailbox.
The SVFD posted a thank you note on Twitter Monday to their fellow area firefighters who responded Sunday.
