Gainesville, FL : Lake Butler man killed in crash on I-75 in Gainesville on Monday, 16th December, 2019
A 53-year-old Lake Butler man was killed in a crash on Interstate 75 in Gainesville Monday evening and two elderly Hernando people were hospitalized in serious condition.
Raymond Wolf, who was driving a Toyota RAV4, was pronounced dead at UF Health Shands Hospital following the crash, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
The crash occurred in the southbound lanes near Mile Marker 387, at Newberry Road, around 7:49 p.m. and forced the closure of all southbound lanes.
Wolf was driving “at a high rate of speed” and swerved left to avoid a tractor-trailer in front of him, according to FHP. The Toyota struck a guardrail in the median and rolled several times.
Wolf, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car.
The car landed in the inside southbound lane without working lights, and a bronze 2000 Buick LeSabre struck the RAV4 head-on.
