Boulder,CO : Cyclist killed in crash in Sunshine Canyon in Boulder County on may, thursday 4th 2017

A cyclist died from his injuries following a collision with an Xcel Energy vehicle on Sunshine Canyon Drive west of Boulder on Thursday afternoon.

Colorado State Patrol Cpl. Justin Williams said the cyclist appeared to have crossed a double yellow line on a downhill curve and struck a westbound truck that was hauling a trailer.

Williams said no charges are currently being filed, but the crash remains under investigation.

Colorado State Trooper Josh Lewis said that the crash was reported about 1 p.m. on Sunshine Canyon Drive at Seven Hills Drive. The 19-year-old cyclist had been transported to Boulder Community Health's Foothills Hospital following the crash and later died there.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors, at least on the part of the driver, a 28-year-old man.

The cyclist's identity had not been released on Thursday. His death marks the sixth fatal crash involving a cyclist and a motor vehicle in Boulder County in the past year.

Peyton Knowlton, 8, was struck and killed on May 20 as she road her bicycle near 17th Avenue and Alpine Street in Longmont. Kyle Couch pleaded guilty to careless driving resulting in death and received 150 days in jail.About a month later, 46-year-old Shane Swope died a day after he was struck by a truck near 17th Avenue and Gay Street, also in Longmont. Felipe Peralta-Alverez was charged with driving without a license and careless driving resulting in death. The charges are still pending.

On June 25, Bill Davis, 35, was struck and killed near Jay Road and 30th Street north of Boulder. Callie Kuhasz pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide earlier this year and is expected to be sentenced later this month.

Michelle Walters, 34, swerved into traffic on U.S. 36 north of Boulder during the Ironman Boulder competition last August, struck a vehicle, fell down and was run over. She died at the scene. The driver as not charged.

On Nov. 30, Dum Gurung, 65, was killed after he collided with a semitrailer near 28th Street and Arapahoe Avenue. The driver of the semitrailer was not charged.
