9-Year-Old Girl Struck, Killed by Car in Fairfax County
Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal accident involving a child on a bike.
Police said a 9-year-old girl was riding her bike when a westbound 2004 Mercury four-door sedan hit her at about 4:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Franconia Road and Cannon Lane in the Rose Hill area of Fairfax County. Two girls riding with her were not hit.
All three girls were riding eastbound on a paved path along Franconia Road when they tried to cross the road, police said. The road is residential but busy.
The 80-year-old man driving the car remained at the scene, NBC4's Jackie Bensen reported.
The girl, Rebecca Johns, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, officials said. She has since been pronounced dead.
