A 42-year-old mother of a young girl died after a crash in Fayetteville on Friday night, officials say.Lakina P. Alford of Grandview Drive died after the car she was driving Friday night crashed at the intersection of Hay Street and Robeson Street.
Officers responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m.
Police say Alford was driving a white Chevrolet Malibu west on Hay Street, and left the roadway at the intersection of Robeson Street striking a light pole.She was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition and later died.
Alford’s mother, Janet Alford, told CBS North Carolina her daughter made people smile and always helped others.
Lakina Alford leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter, her family said.
“She touched so many lives, she will be missed by all,” her mother Janet Alford said.
The intersection remained closed for several hours but has since reopened.
The accident remains under investigation.
