At least two people were killed this morning in a two-vehicle collision north of Two Harbors.
According to preliminary reports, a pickup truck northbound on Minnesota Highway 61 lost control on the Gooseberry River bridge and went into the southbound lane, where it was broadsided on the passenger side by a southbound Jeep, Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Mark Baker said. At least one of the vehicles caught fire.
There was at least one other person in one of the vehicles, according to the state patrol dispatch in Duluth. That person's condition was not immediately available.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. Roads in the area were slippery from a mixture of rain and snow and, in some locations ice, Baker said.
Traffic was detoured around the accident scene for several hours this morning. Highway 61 was reopened to traffic before 11 a.m.
