SCOTTSDALE, AZ : Multiple crashes cause closures of Loop 101 in Scottsdale/Tempe area on Sunday, 3rd September 2023
Multiple early Labor Day morning crashes caused Loop 101 closures in the Scottsdale and Tempe areas.
The first crash occurred overnight along northbound L-101 near McDonald Drive in Scottsdale just before 3 a.m.
Officials at the scene say one person was killed in the crash, which involved a motorcycle and two vehicles.
A Jeep Patriot driver reportedly sideswiped a motorcyclist, knocking the 55-year-old man off the motorcycle. He died from his injuries.
The Patriot then rolled over, causing minor injuries to the 22-year-old driver.
A third vehicle also reportedly struck the motorcycle.
DPS says the Patriot driver is under investigation for DUI.
Those lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
