Annapolis,IN : None harmed in 16-car train crash on December, Thursday 21st 2017

Thursday night’s shocking train derailment undoubtedly made more than a few people nervous. But no one was actually harmed in the event, which inspired a temporary evacuation due to some hazardous materials being carried in the train cars. The cause of the derailment was apparently a wheel malfunction.

“We were very fortunate that no one was hurt,” said Rensselaer Police Chief Jeff Phillips.

The derailment occured at around 10:15 p.m. Rensselaer Police Officers were then called to a point near the intersection of Scott and Walnut Streets. Once on the scene, they found 16 cars had come off the tracks. Police later reported that the cars contained high fructose corn syrup and petroleum distillates.
