Beaumont, TX : Two-vehicle crash in Jasper Co. injures two on Sunday, 16th October 2016
Sunday, Oct. 16, at approximately 3 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two-vehicle crash on US 96 near Evadale in Jasper County.
Preliminary reports indicate that a vehicle was on fire on the northbound shoulder of US 96 near Evadale. Judge Steve Connor, also a firefighter, was traveling southbound on US 96 to check on the possible car fire. When Connor slowed down to make a left turn, his vehicle was rear-ended by a 2001 Dodge pickup truck.
The driver of the 2001 Dodge pickup truck, 28-year-old Joshua Williams of Silsbee, and his passenger were both transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital in Beaumont. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Connor was not injured and was not transported to the hospital.
Williams was issued a traffic citation for failure to control speed.
Southbound traffic lanes on US 96 near the Hardin-Jasper county line were closed until the crash had been safely cleared from the roadway.
The vehicle that was stopped on the northbound shoulder of US 96 was never on fire; however, there was a small grass fire near the stopped vehicle.
