One man is dead after a suspect trying to elude Greenville County deputies crashed into another vehicle in Anderson County.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Thursday on Anderson Road at Highway 153 about two miles south of Easley.
Deputy Drew Pinciaro with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to an address on South Florida Avenue around 3:45 a.m. to serve warrants on Dexter Davon Reeves.
Two warrants were for domestic violence and unlawful conduct toward a child stemming from an Feb 5. incident. Two others were for domestic violence and burglary for an incident that occurred earlier Thursday morning, Pinciaro said.
Deputies arrived to find Reeves sitting in a vehicle, and said he sped off as the deputies approached him.
Deputies tried to catch up to the fleeing suspect on Highway 81.
Pinciaro said when deputies reached the Highway 153 intersection, they saw that Reeves' car had hit another vehicle.
Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said a car struck a pick-up truck at the intersection.
The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene.
Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman identified the victim as 62-year-old Stephen Alan Burnett of Easley.
Burnett was on his way to work at GBS Lumber in Mauldin at the time of the crash.
Burnett died from multiple internal injures. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
Troopers say Burnett was driving south on Highway 153 when Reeves collided with him at the the intersection.
Reeves was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Anderson Road remained closed at the 153 intersection shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.
