Marion,OH: Man hurt in Marion glider crash on August, Sunday 6th 2017
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a man was injured in an aircraft crash in Marion.
Authorities said 77-year-old Martin Sobel was piloting a glider which was being towed by another aircraft. Shortly after takeoff, OSHP said the glider had difficulty maintaining stability and disconnected from the tow plane.
Sobel attempted to circle around to land but hit a tree line and crashed into a field about one mile northwest of the Marion Municipal Airport runway, according to authorities.
OSHP said Sobel was alert and responsive when emergency crews arrived, and was taken to Marion General Hospital to be treated.
The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted, the crash remains under investigation.
