Darlington,SC : Wednesday afternoon traffic accident kills Darlington man on January, Wednesday 3rd 2018
Darlington, South Carolina
A single vehicle accident caused by icy road conditions in Kershaw County Wednesday afternoon left one man dead.
Kershaw County Coroner David West said Arther Ted Cumbie Jr. of Darlington was killed when his vehicle left the roadway, went into the median and hit several trees.
Cumbie, who was wearing a seatbelt, died due to blunt force trauma and massive head injuries, West said.
According to West, the accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-20 east bound at mile marker 103. According to West, witnesses stated that Cumbie was not speeding; however, they said they saw his truck start sliding and leave the road.
The accident was due to the ice from the storm, West said.
West said Cumbie was employed with a company that was working for INVISTA in Lugoff and was headed home from work when the accident occurred.
