Reading, PA : New York man killed in crash in Upper Bern Township early Wednesday, March 15, 2017

A New York City man was killed when the SUV in which he was a passenger lost control and overturned early Wednesday along Interstate 78 near Shartlesville, crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer parked on an on-ramp, officials said.

Dasheer Cruickshank, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene in Upper Bern Township at 3:39 a.m. by Berks County Deputy Coroner Kurt E. Katzenmoyer.An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today in Reading

Hospital to determine the cause of death, he said.

The driver of the SUV, Ramon Mercado, 18, also of New York, was taken to Reading Hospital with minor injuries.

State police said Mercado was eastbound about 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which struck the center median, slid off the road and flipped onto the on-ramp from Shartlesville.

The SUV came to rest against the trailer of the rig that was parked along the ramp.

Two occupants of the rig were asleep in the truck and were not injured, troopers from the Hamburg station said.
