Madeira Beach, FL : Elderly woman hit and killed crossing Gulf Blvd. in Madeira Beach on Sunday, November 30, 2014
An elderly woman was struck and killed when she attempted to cross Gulf Boulevard near 147th Avenue in Madeira Beach Sunday, authorities said.
According to Pinellas County sheriff's investigators, 75-year-old Joan Patrick of Ontario, Canada, had just had dinner with relatives at Dockside Dave's on Madeira Beach.
After dinner Patrick and her family started to cross Gulf Blvd. to the west. They all made it across the northbound lanes of Gulf Blvd, a sheriff's report states.
Patrick, who was walking slightly behind her family, was struck in the inside southbound lane by a Nissan Altima driven by 28-year-old Nicole Biggs of Seminole.
Patrick was taken by ambulance to St. Petersburg General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies say neither impairment nor speed appear to be factors in the crash.
The investigation continues.
