WENDELL, NC : Man killed during early morning car crash in Wendell on Monday, January, 1st 2017
One man was killed and his brother was hurt when a car the men were riding in crashed early Monday in Wendell, authorities said.
Officials said speeding and alcohol were believed to have been factors in the crash, which occurred at Rolesville Road at Riley Hill Road around 3 a.m. Christopher Brown, 23, and his brother, Edwin Scott, 37, were ejected from the 2006 Volvo sedan when the crash occurred.
Brown died at the scene. Scott was rushed for treatment to WakeMed, where he was listed early Monday in serious condition.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed who was driving the vehicle, which was said to have reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour in the moments before the crash occurred. Authorities said the car ran off the road and rolled over before crashing and erupting into flames.
Authorities said neither man was wearing a seat belt and both brothers were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover crash, which was about three miles from where the men lived.
Responding rescue workers told WRAL News that they smelled alcohol on both suspects. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
