A 21-year-old Escondido woman died after her car overturned and struck a tree off of state Route 78 in San Marcos, the California Highway Patrol said.
The woman was headed west in a 1997 Acura CL about 2:20 a.m. when she lost control while trying to change lanes near San Marcos Boulevard, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said.
The car veered to the right, hit the shoulder and overturned. It then struck a tree and landed upside down, Bettencourt said. The driver died at the scene.
There were no passengers inside and no other cars were involved, he said. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
