Westfield, MA : The Springfield man dies in a fatal rollover car accident at Westfield On Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

The Springfield man who died in a fatal rollover car accident in Westfield on Tuesday was fleeing police at the time, according to 22News.

Rakeem Nelson, 21, was traveling along Union Street shortly after 12:30 a.m., when he attempted a turn and his vehicle flipped over and struck a tree.

The Hampden County District Attorney's office released a statement alleging that Nelson was pulled over for speeding shortly before the crash took place. When the police officer who stopped Nelson attempted to confirm his identity, he drove off.

The ensuing car chase lead to the fatal crash, according to 22News.

Massachusetts State Police are investigating the case.
