Belchertown , MA : Eighteen-year-old Girl was killed in car accident at State Street on Sunday evening , December 14th 2014

Eighteen-year-old Keely Walsh, of Lancaster, was killed in a car accident early on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred on State Street in Belchertown, just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. Belchertown police received a 911 call about a single-car accident approximately 100 yards from the police station, and responded immediately, according to a statement from Police Det. John Raymer.

The vehicle, a red 1993 Honda Civic, "had left the road and struck several trees," said Raymer.

Walsh, the only passenger, was deceased when first responders arrived at the scene. Her identity was confirmed by Mary Carey of the Northwestern District Attorney's office.

The vehicle's male operator was injured, and both he and Walsh were extricated from the vehicle by the jaws of life.

The operator was Life-Flighted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Belchertown Police Department, Massachusetts State Accident Reconstruction Unit, and the office of the Northwestern District Attorney.
