Detroit,MI : Two people killed in car crashes into tree Friday morning August 7th 2015
Two people were killed early Friday morning when the car they were in slammed into a tree in a Detroit neighborhood.
Police said the crash happened after an officer tried to pull over a Dodge Challenger for speeding and going the wrong way down on McNichols. The Challenger sped off and ran over more than six lawns before crashing into a tree near the intersection of Pilgrim and Archdale streets.
“It (the Challenger) came past the house like a jet,” said witness Jermaine Taylor. “Then, boom. The car went up in flames. The car was gone.”
The impact from the crash damaged resident Margie Reid’s front lawn and porch.
“I saw fire. We have our grandkids, we got them yesterday, and I got them up out of the bed because I was getting out of the house,” Reid said. “The husband said, ‘Someone’s hit the tree.’ It was really terrible. It was really terrible.”
Police said the Challenger’s driver, a male, died at the scene. The female passenger was taken to a hospital, but died. Their identities have not yet been released.
