One dead after school bus, car collide in Covington
One person was killed in Covington Friday afternoon after a school bus collided with a car.The accident happened on Highway 36 at Glass Springs Road.Georgia State Patrol said the driver of the car was killed and identified him as James Cooper, 21.
Officers said Cooper drove out of his driveway and attempted to make a left-hand turn when he pulled into the path of the school bus.
Newton County Schools said no one was injured on the bus, though GSP said one student complained of injury. The bus was transporting home 16 students from Indian Creek Middle School.
A spokesperson said all of the affected parents were called. The students were either picked up by their parents at the scene or put on an alternate school bus.
