WATERTOWN, SD : Two people died in a crash south of Watertown on Sunday, August 20, 2017
The crash happened at 4:01 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 81, near mile marker 143, 10 miles south of Watertown.
The names of the two people are not being released pending notification of their families. They were the only people involved in the crash
A 2002 Toyota Corolla driven by a 16-year-old female, no residence given, was northbound on U.S. Highway 81 when it crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2003 Chrysler Concorde, driven by a 64-year-old male, no residence given. The Concorde went into the west ditch and started on fire.
The drivers were both pronounced dead at the scene.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Other agencies on scene were the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, Codington County Sheriff’s Office, Hayti Fire Department, Castlewood Fire Department and Watertown Fire Department.
