Jersey City, NJ : 2 injured in shooting on MLK Drive in Jersey City; 3 arrested after crash on Wednesday, 27th January 2021

Two people were shot in a drive-by shooting in Jersey City Wednesday afternoon and three people were taken into custody after crashing their car less than a mile away, authorities said.

Police recovered two handguns in the shooting at Martin Luther King Drive and Oak Street, Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

Officers on a nearby foot post heard the gunshots just after 1 p.m. and quickly responded to Oak and MLK Drive, where two victims were located, Wallace-Scalcione said.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, with one victim being discharged. The second victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to police radio transmissions, is remaining in the hospital in stable condition.

An off-duty JCPD officer saw the vehicle fleeing the scene and maintained the vehicle’s location until on-duty units arrived, Wallace-Scalcione said. The driver fled, but then crashed at Westervelt Place and Grand Street.

The three occupants in the car fled on foot and were quickly apprehended by JCPD officers. Their names and the charges were not immediately released by the city.
