Torrington, CT : 25-year-old man struck and killed by a city plow truck on South Main Street on Sunday morning, January 4, 2015

Police in Connecticut say a jogger who stepped out into the road to avoid a puddle or debris has been fatally struck by a snowplow.

Sgt. Greg Wityak tells the Republican-American of Waterbury that the 25-year-old man was wearing headphones as he jogged in Torrington before sunrise Sunday. Wityak says the man was struck as he moved farther out into the road.

Police say the city truck was not plowing the road at the time. The driver stayed at the scene and has cooperated with police.

The jogger was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The truck driver also was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

An accident investigation team was examining the scene.
