Yakima, WA : Two Yakima police cars involved in a crash on April, Sunday 23rd 2017
Two Yakima police cars crashed into one another Sunday night while responding to a search for three people who ran from state troopers after a chase.
The incident began about 9 p.m., when the Washington State Patrol said a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 82 near Union Gap because it matched the description of one sought in a drive-by shooting the day before. However, a pursuit ensued when the driver refused to stop.
The chase continued into Yakima where the vehicle crashed in the parking lot of Les Schwab Tire Center, 2002 S. First St., and three occupants ran away, said Yakima Police Department spokesman Mike Bastinelli.
Meanwhile, two Yakima police cars responding to the incident crashed into one another near the business, said Bastinelli, who said he doesn’t believe either officer is being blamed for the incident.
