A motorcyclist was killed this morning after he reportedly ran a red light and collided with a tractor trailer.
Christopher Haskell, 23, of Sarasota, was driving a Suzuki motorcycle at 2:33 a.m. north on Beneva Road. A semi, driven by a Port Orange man, was traveling west on Clark Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
An eyewitness reported that Haskell drove through a red light, colliding with the semi and trailer, FHP reports. Haskell, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle, which caught on fire.
Haskell was pronounced dead and taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Tests are pending to determine if alcohol may have been involved, FHP reports.
Neither the driver nor the passenger of the semi was injured.
No charges have been filed.
