Tecumseh, KS : Teenager died after vehicle crash in Shawnee County On Wednesday December 23 2015

A teenager died Wednesday after an all-terrain vehicle crash along a narrow, winding road in eastern Shawnee County.
Emergency crews were sent about 12:10 p.m. to 8321 S.E. 2nd, where the three-wheeler accident was reported.
Shawnee County Sheriff Herman Jones said at the scene that four ATVs were being ridden about mid-day Wednesday east on S.E. 2nd when one of the units, a red three-wheeler, lost control for an unknown reason on a slight curve. The ATV — which had been traveling east — left the north side of S.E. 2nd, where it crashed into a tree that was near the roadway.
The ATV’s driver, a 16-year-old boy, suffered critical injuries. He was rushed by an American Medical Response ambulance to a hospital, where he died, Jones said.
The boy’s name hadn’t been released as of 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Initial reports at the scene indicated the boy wasn’t breathing when paramedics arrived. Jones said the teen was wearing a helmet when he crashed.
The other three ATVs could be seen parked on the right side of eastbound S.E. 2nd after the crash, which occurred about a half-mile west of the Shawnee-Douglas county line.
The area of S.E. 2nd where the crash occurred, just south of the Kansas River, is hilly and curvy. Its north side, which has a steep drop-off, is filled with trees.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Jones said. Each ATV was occupied only by its driver.
The incident remains under investigation.
In addition to the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office and AMR ambulance, the Shawnee Heights Fire District responded to the scene.
