Bowling Green,KY : BG man dies after wreck in charity motorcycle event on May, Saturday 12th 2018
A single-vehicle motorcycle wreck during Saturday’s Great Teddy Bear Run charity event has claimed the life of a Bowling Green man.
Robert J. Bartley, 55, died late Saturday night, several hours after suffering injuries when his motorcycle wrecked between Clay and Kentucky streets on Veterans Memorial Boulevard about 11:30 a.m., according to Bowling Green Police Department spokesman Officer Ronnie Ward.
Ward said Bartley was thrown from the motorcycle, but the cause of the accident has not been determined. Ward said Bartley was not wearing a helmet.
Police were on the scene and able to respond immediately. Bartley was airlifted to a Nashville trauma center, Ward said.
“We’re reconstructing the accident to see if we can determine the cause,” he said.
The Great Teddy Bear Run, which benefits the Barren River Child Advocacy Center, was rescheduled to Saturday from its original date April 14 because of heavy rains.
Some 500 motorcyclists, each sporting a teddy bear on the bike, were expected for the event in which the riders gathered at the Warren County Justice Center and rode through town to the Harley-Davidson dealership on Cumberland Trace Road.
