OMAHA, NE : 2 adults dead in accidental carbon monoxide poisoning on Monday, 4th March 2019
Two people are dead after carbon monoxide poisoning Monday morning.
Police identified the victims as 79-year-old Tedford Buller and 37-year-old Jennifer Buller.Omaha police said the source of the carbon monoxide was from a vehicle left running in the garage, suspected to be accidental.
The fumes spread throughout the home near 56th and Spring Streets.
"Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that mixes freely with oxygen that we breathe, so at dangerous levels, it can mix with your hemoglobin and your system and prevent the oxygen from circulating," said Omaha fire battalion chief Scott Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick said the carbon monoxide level in the residence was measured at nearly 45 times what the fire department considers concerning.
"When we got there, it was over 400 parts per million," said Fitzpatrick. "Anything over 9 in a residence we start being concerned, 9 parts per million, and it was at 400."
Police said a family member had stopped by the house and called 911 around 10:30 a.m.
An adult man and adult woman were dead inside the residence. The Nebraska Humane Society said a cat also died in the basement.
