Elk Mills, MD : Delaware woman killed in a single-vehicle crash on a road northeast of Elkton early Monday morning, February 27, 2017
A Delaware woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on a road northeast of Elkton early Monday morning, and investigators suspect that alcohol was a “contributing factor in the collision,” according to Maryland State Police.
Investigators identified Tanya Lynn Horn, 27, of Newark, Del., as the woman killed in the traffic accident, which occurred on Elk Mills Road sometime before 2:30 a.m., when MSP troopers were alerted, police said.
Horn was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:43 a.m., shortly after paramedics and other emergency first responders had arrived, police added.
Based on the preliminary investigation, Horn was driving a white Chevrolet Cruz westbound in the 800 block of Elk Mills Road, west of Appleton Road, when she inexplicably lost control of her car, according to police.
Horn's vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree, police reported. Horn was the only occupant of the car, police noted.
The fatal crash forced emergency workers to close a section of Appleton Road for more than two hours while an MSP Accident Reconstruction Team conducted an on-scene investigation, police said. The overall investigation is continuing, police added.
