New York, N.Y : Motorcyclist dies after crashing into box truck in Brooklyn early Saturday, February 25, 2017

A motorcyclist died in Brooklyn early Saturday when he lost control of his bike while braking to avoid a turning taxi, police said.

Franklin Goodman, 68, wound up in a sideways skid at the intersection of Bushwick and Montrose avenues in East Williamsburg and crashed his his 2004 Suzuki bike into the rear of a parked, unoccupied box truck, police said.

The 5 a.m. crash sent sparks flying and propelled the married dad 50 feet from his bike, witnesses told The Post.

“At first I really thought it was going to be okay — this guy was responsive,” said passerby Dan Gray, 22.

Then, “When I was holding him, there was just a hiccup or a cough — three or four times — and then he was gone,” Gray said.

“He convulsed a few times and I felt him go limp.”

Friends says Goodman was an experienced rider.

“Wonderful guy,” a family friend who gave her name as “Rita” told a Post reporter at Goodman’s Bensonhurst home.
“Funny, loving, wonderful.”

Just before cops arrived, the driver of the box truck returned to his vehicle and drove off. Police stopped him nearby at Manhattan Avenue and Grand Street.

The 41-year-old driver was initially questioned as a suspect in what investigators first believed was a hit-and-run. He was released without charges once surveillance video cleared him.
