A motorcycle driver suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing into an SUV at an intersection east of downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday, police said.
Just before 5 p.m., the SUV was making a left turn onto Institute Street from Pikes Peak Avenue when it hit a motorcycle that was heading east on Pikes Peak, police said.
The crash caused "extreme damage" to the SUV and motorcycle, police said.
The motorcyclist, whose identity was not released, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was taken to Memorial Hospital, and the SUV driver suffered minor injuries, police said.
As of 8 p.m., the intersection of Pikes Peak and Institute are closed while police investigation the crash.
