Huntersville ,NC :Larry Donald Olson, 60 killed in wrong-way I-77 crash on Saturday ,September 5th 2015

Larry Donald Olson, 60, of Thomasville, died in an early Saturday morning wreck on Interstate 77, troopers said.

Troopers were dispatched to Interstate 77 north near Stumptown Road after a number of people called 911 reporting a driver, later identified as Olson, was traveling south in the northbound lanes.

When troopers arrived to the scene they found two cars that had collided head-on near mile marker 25.

Olson died at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a woman believed to be in her 30s, was taken to an area hospital.

Officials said she’s expected to survive.

Investigators said Olson was traveling from Columbia, South Carolina, when the crash happened.

Olson was delivering medical supplies for a company he worked for and it’s believed he was returning to Winston Salem, troopers said.

Troopers also found a warm cup of coffee in his car. They suspect he may have been getting back on the interstate after purchasing the beverage and somehow became disoriented. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
