Marina ,CA : California Highway Patrol officer suffered major injuries during a crash AT Highway 1 ON Tuesday Afternoon , December 23rd 2014
A California Highway Patrol officer suffered major injuries during a crash on Highway 1 in Marina Tuesday afternoon.
A Toyota Camry collided with the CHP officer's motorcycle at 2:35 p.m. near the Del Monte Boulevard off-ramp.
Monterey County CHP Officer Jaime Rios said the accident was caused by the Camry swerving in front of the marked motorcycle.
The injured officer is 40 years old and a 10-year veteran on the force.
Rios said it appears a 79-year-old driver from Arroyo Grande, Calif. did not intentionally try to hit the officer.
The officer's lights and sirens were not on at the time.
His motorcycle was pinned underneath a flatbed truck and good Samaritans ran to help the officers before paramedics arrived. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Highway 1's Del Monte Boulevard off-ramp was blocked off by CalTrans crews for more than two hours while Marina police officers and the CHP investigated what happened.
