Authorities say part of an Upstate interstate has been closed after a crash that killed a trucker trying to avoid a sleepy driver.Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman says 60-year-old Gary A. Stephens of Blacksburg was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday morning.
According to Boseman, another driver from Alabama says she felt tired at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday while driving on Interstate 85 near Fair Play. She lost control of her vehicle, went off the side of the road, then came back onto the highway.
Boseman says Stephens swerved to miss her vehicle, struck it anyway, then hit a tree. The other driver wasn't hurt.
The crash is still under investigation. As of 11 a.m., the right lane of I-85 northbound was still closed.
