Two-vehicle crash injures Lodi man near Harrisville

A 37-year-old Lodi man who was ejected from his car after it collided with a tractor-trailer early Tuesday morning at U.S. Route 224 and Vandemark Road was listed in serious condition at an Akron hospital this morning.

Shane Charles Elswick, of 302½ Medina St., was northbound on Vandemark Road at about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday in a 2000 Toyota Camry when he pulled in front of a semitrailer heading west on Route 224, according to Trooper Nick Clemens of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Medina post.

Elswick and his car were found in the grassy median of the highway, about 50 feet west of the point of impact, Clemens said.

The driver of the 2006 Volvo truck, 32-year-old Alfred L. Brown, of Spencer Township, was not injured in the crash. His truck ended up in a ditch off the westbound lanes of Route 224.
Elswick was flown to Akron City Hospital for treatment of serious head injuries, according to a patrol news release.

A hospital spokeswoman said Elswick was in intensive care and listed in serious condition Tuesday night.

Clemens said Elswick was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
