As the reality set in Monday, faculty and students at Verbum Dei High School in Los Angeles came to the realization that two of the private school’s most prized graduates — two young siblings who never really left the campus — were gone, killed in a horrific weekend car crash not far from their Carson home.

“The faculty here that remembered them have had the hardest day,” Prinicipal Brandi Odom Lucas said. “It just seems wrong. … I’m still waiting for a phone to say it’s a mistake.”
