A Smyrna man was killed Friday night in a two-car collision on I-24 East near the Rutherford County line.
Police said Ronald Acosta, 52, was killed in the crash, which occurred at 8:30 p.m.
Acosta was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala and left its lane for an unknown reason and struck a 2010 Ford Focus driving by Rebecca Riggsby, 27, of Murfreesboro, according to police.
The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway where they struck a grass embankment and a tree line.
Police said Acosta, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his car and died at the scene. Police found two open containers of beer and several ounces of marijuana inside the Impala.
Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine if Acosta was impaired.
Rebecca Riggsby and her passenger Robert Riggsby, 25, also of Murfreesboro, were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police said both were wearing seat belts.
