Red Bluff, CA : One dead in South Avenue cyclist collision on Wednesday, 7th March 2018
A 73-year-old cyclist was killed Wednesday evening after being hit by a pickup truck on South Avenue.
Both vehicles were heading west on South Avenue east of Colombia Avenue around 7:29 p.m. when Harry Riggs, 85, of Corning attempted to swerve his 2009 Ford F-250 around what he thought was a box on the road, according to a California Highway Patrol press release issued Thursday morning.
Riggs’ vehicle struck the 1990 Summit Trike, ejecting the Corning resident, whose name has been withheld, and causing fatal injuries.
Corning police assisted CHP in the incident with a coroner requested for the death on the scene.
No drugs or alcohol are suspected in the collision though it is still under investigation.
Riggs was uninjured and no arrest was made.
