MILO, NY : Yates County man dies in crash on Sunday, January, 7th 2018
A well-known area contractor died Jan. 7 in a one-car accident on Himrod Road.
Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike said Lance Strong, 48, of Chubb Hollow Road, lost control of his pickup truck on a curve, crashed into a ditch, rolled over, and ended up in a field. The crash occurred about 7:45 p.m.
Spike added that Strong was partially ejected from his vehicle, and was trapped under his truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by county Coroner Steve Culver.
Strong co-owned IBS Builders in Penn Yan, owned a car wash in Penn Yan, and was active in the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club.
“We believe that was where he was coming from prior to the accident, as they had a large fundraiser there for a local man,” Spike said, adding that Strong may have been going to Penn Yan to check on his car wash. “Regrettably, Lance was not wearing his seat belt, and we believe if he had been it would have made a difference in the fatal outcome.”
Spike said the cause of the crash is being investigated. Culver ordered an autopsy, Spike added.
The sheriff said despite the recent cold and snowy weather, the road was clear at the time.
