Logansport, IN : A single-vehicle crash near Galveston on Wednesday, December, 20th 2017
A single-vehicle crash late Wednesday night near the intersection of U.S. 35 and 1150 South killed a young mother and injured her toddler, authorities said.
Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Slocum said a 2006 Jeep Liberty driven by Heather Starr Titus, 33, Kokomo, was traveling southbound on U.S. 35 at around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night when the vehicle suddenly left the east side of the roadway.
It then drove through a ditch and struck several trees before finally coming to a rest, Slocum said.
Titus was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 2-year-old who was also in the vehicle — Brooklyn Titus — was transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, and was treated for cuts and scratches but has since been released, according to an ISP press release.
The crash is currently under investigation, but the release indicated neither the use of alcohol or narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
Along with ISP, the Cass County Sheriff's Department also assisted at the scene.
