Raleigh, NC : Officials: Bear found dead on North Carolina State University bench was hit by car on April 29th 2014

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says a bear found dead on a bench at N.C. State Tuesday morning was not shot.

Preliminary unofficial necropsy results show that the bear may have been hit by a vehicle, which could have been an accident.

Exactly who hit the bear is under investigation, and whoever dumped the body in the school's Brickyard area could land in serious trouble.

"You can't possess those animals outside of the hunting season," Said Capt. Matthew Long, with the Wildlife Resources Commission. "So you have the possess and transportation charge. You can't dispose of one in the manner that this one was disposed of. Littering is what comes to mind, is the simple charge."
