Fort Dodge,IA : Fatal crash driver still in D.M. hospital on September, Sunday 24th 2017

The woman who was involved in a fatal crash in Humboldt County Sunday night remains hospitalized at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, according to Amy Varcoe, a spokeswoman for the hospital.


Trisha Luthro, 40, of Badger, was reportedly driving in the wrong lane of traffic when her SUV collided head-on with a Buick LaCrosse driven by Kevin Ahlstrom, 39, of Humboldt.

The crash occurred at about 7:50 p.m. near the crest of a hill, east of Humboldt on Iowa Highway 3, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

Kevin Ahlstrom’s son, Brady Ahlstrom, died at the scene.

He was 12 years old.

Kevin Ahlstrom was transported by ambulance to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Kevin Ahlstrom, who suffered incapacitating injuries, was not listed as a patient at the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Varcoe.

His condition was not available Tuesday.

Luthro remains in serious condition, Varcoe reported.

It’s not yet known what caused Luthro to enter the lane of oncoming traffic.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is to conduct toxicology tests in the coming days, according to Trooper Alex Dinkla, of the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
