Baton Rouge, LA : Man dies in Lafourche car crash Saturday on Saturday, February 18th 2017
A man was killed in a two-car crash on U.S. Route 90 in Des Allemands on Saturday (Feb. 18), Louisiana state police said.
Jamie Delatte of Des Allemands, 39, was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m., police spokesman Jesse LaGrange said. Delatte, who was driving west in a 2012 Honda Civic, started making a U-turn when he did not yield to a 2002 Ford pick-up truck that was driving east.
The truck hit Delatte's Honda on the passenger side. The Honda came to rest on the eastbound shoulder, and the truck crossed the median and stopped in the westbound lanes.
Delatte sustained serious injuries. He was taken in an ambulance to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital, where he died.
The driver of the truck, German Ramirez of Reserve, 24, was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He was treated for minor injuries and released.
Ramirez took a breathalyzer test, which was clean of alcohol. He was wearing his seat belt.
Officials do not think Delatte was impaired but are performing standard toxicology tests, LaGrange said.
State troopers urge everyone in a vehicle to follow the law and wear a safety belt.
