BARTON, VT : White River Junction woman dies in crash on Monday, January 2nd 2017
A White River Junction woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Monday, according to the Vermont State Police.
Stacy Bissell, 45, was driving south on Interstate 91 in Barton when her 2014 Honda Accord left the east side of the highway, traveled through the median and into the northbound lanes. Bissell’s car collided with a 2006 Subaru driven by Richard Farrar, 59, of Newport, police said.
The crash was reported to police around 8 p.m. on Monday.
Trooper from the Vermont State Police barracks in Derby and St. Johnsbury responded to the scene along with personnel from Barton Ambulance, the Barton Fire Department and the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
Bissell was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Farrar was taken to North Country Hospital in Newport for what police said were non life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday morning, police said the crash was still under investigation. It was still unclear if speed or alcohol played a role.
There were initial reports that one of the cars was on fire.
