Pendleton, IN : Central Indiana deputy hurt in crash with van that fled scene before being located on Saturday October 25th 2014.
A Madison County sheriff's deputy is recovering after being hurt in a hit-and-run crash involving a van filled with juveniles.
Sheriff Ron Richardson said Lt. Joseph Rodney was responding to a call around 3:40 a.m. Saturday when a van ran a stop sign and traveled into the path of the officer's marked SUV at a rural intersection near the town of Pendleton, about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Richardson says the van fled the scene but was found abandoned short time later. The sheriff says officers found a female juvenile nearby and three teenage boys. The parents of the teens were notified, and one told officers the teenagers were driving around hunting for deer and raccoons.
