NORWICH, OH : Multiple-vehicle crash closes I-70 in Muskingum County on Sunday, January, 14th 2018
An accident that involved three tractor-trailers closed a portion of Interstate 70 in Muskingum County for more than three hours Monday night.
No serious injuries were reported following the accident at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The collision closed the westbound lanes of I-70 near the airport exit until approximately 10:40 p.m., according to an email from the Ohio Department of Transportation announcing all lanes of I-70 were open.
According to WHIZ News in Zanesville, a tractor-trailer was traveling west when it jackknifed on the highway near mile post 160. A second tractor-trailer then struck the jackknifed truck and a third struck the semi that struck the jackknifed truck.
WHIZ reported citations were issued to the driver of the truck that jackknifed and the truck that struck the other truck that struck the jackknifed truck. The names of the drivers were not available as of press time.
The name of the third truck driver was also not available.
The weather is believed to have been a factor in the accident as a storm system dumped several inches of fresh snow on area roadways starting Monday afternoon.
ODOT reported the roadway was still “slippery” following the accident and motorists were urged to use caution.
The accident remained under investigation by troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Zanesville post.
