Sparr, FL : 35-year-old William R. Weaver dead after single-vehicle crash on CR 329 in Sparr on Thursday, March 19, 2015
An Anthony man was killed early Thursday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving careened off County Road 329 in Sparr, crashed through a plastic fence and struck a tree.
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver as William R. Weaver, 35. He was headed home at the time.
Sheriff's deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a woman driving east on County Road 329 ran over debris and saw the broken fence. She turned around, came up on the scene and saw the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox in a yard. Seeing that someone was inside, she called 911 at 2:13 a.m., according to officials on scene.
Troopers believe the driver was also traveling east on CR 329 and, over a 120-foot stretch, went off one side of the road and then off the other, twice, before crashing through the fence and hitting the tree.
It was not clear why he lost control on the curvy road, but troopers said speed was a factor. The two-lane road where the accident occurred has no street light and is dark.
Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene, in the 3400 block of East CR 329.
The crash happened less than three miles from the place where 20-year-old Dylan S. Bryant died on Nov. 19, 2014, when he was knocked off his 2010 Bash scooter by a speeding car. His body was dragged beneath a rented 2014 Nissan for some distance.
The Nissan sped away from the crash scene near the intersection of County Road 329 and Northeast Jacksonville Road and then crashed into the Sparr Building and Farm Supply store. In that case, the driver ran away and has not been caught.
