Sandusky,OH : Names of victims released in triple-deadly Sandusky County crash on June, Friday 23th 2017
Three people are dead as a result of a crash in Sandusky County Friday morning.
The crash occurred on US-6 near mile post 3 in Madison Township around 8 a.m.
According to police, Matthew Bramel, 21, of Louisville, Kentucky attempted to pass traffic and was hit head-on by a semi.
The semi driver attempted to avoid the collision, but police say the head-on crash was inevitable.
Two other people in the car were killed in the crash:
Police say the young adults were headed to Cedar Point for the day.
"These young people were on their way to Cedar Point this morning, probably gonna have a great time, a great weekend," said Sgt. Mike Walter, Ohio State Highway Patrol. "They were packed for a weekend, and I don't know why they would be in a hurry. Cedar Point doesn't open until 10 o'clock to my knowledge."
The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.
Sergeant Walter of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said he sees these kinds of accidents all too often on this stretch of US 6, especially this time of year.
"That's common in this area as well, a lot of people traveling from Indiana to see Cedar Point and the islands. Our roads here in Sandusky County -US 6, State Route 53- are very busy this time of year, especially May through November," Sergeant Walter said.
One witness claims that specific stretch of US-6 is notorious to speeding and crashes.
"It's sad. People need to slow down," said Kevin Shammo, who lives on US-6. "I don't like to see anyone get hurt like that, especially young people. It's just sad; it saddens your heart."
Police are now urging drivers to wear their seat belt, watch speed and not get in a hurry.
US-6 was closed for nearly nine hours after the crash.
